Royal Ascot III vs Windsor 4th XI - Saturday 29th May

Windsor 239 for 4 S.Martin 80, T Houghton 59no

Royal Ascot 89 all out A.Parsley 20, C.Light 3-7, J Bannerjee 3-34

Windsor’s impressive start to the season continued on Saturday away at Royal Ascot. Royal Ascot won the toss and put Windsor into bat on an uneven and slope assisted wicket. The Windsor openers set off at a frantic pace scoring 85 off the opening 15 overs. 80 from Scott Martin, together with a debut 30 from colt John Holmes and a quick 59 from wicket-keeper batsman Tim Houghton allowed Windsor to declare in the 43rd over with 239 on the board for the loss of only 4 wickets.

It meant Ascot had to score an unlikely 240 to win or bat through a mammoth 57 overs to survive with a draw. Windsor’s last two games saw the bowlers dismissing the opposition for 69 and 68 respectively, so hopes were high of victory despite the unavailable quicks Ben Lewis (on 3rd XI duty) and Harvey Singh. Quick bowler Jay Bannerjee ruffled up the Ascot top order and his 8 overs brought a reward of 3 wickets for 34. Captain Charles Light had a hat-trick opportunity, O’Sullivan and Davies went in successive balls and Putt provided the hat-trick opportunity, but it fell to the ground just short of Jay Bannerjee in the field!

David Holmes brought the Ascot innings to a close having Aldridge stumped by wicket-keeper Houghton, and Windsor’s winning margin was an impressive 150 runs, and made it three weeks running that Windsor had dismissed their opponents for under 100.
