Windsor 4th XI vs Maidenhead & Bray 3rd XI - Saturday 5th June

Windsor 175 all out T.Houghton 76, Woodvine 4-27

Maidenhead & Bray 176 for 4 C.Jacobson 107no

An impressive innings of 76 by wicketkeeper Tim Houghton wasn’t enough to prevent Windsor 4’s from their first league defeat of the season.

Having lost the toss Windsor knew that with their side besieged by bowling unavailabilities they had to look for a score in excess of 200 to stand a realistic chance of forcing a victory with the limit bowling resources available.

However the top order batting that had been so impressive the week before at Ascot suffered a total collapse as Windsor fell to 52-5. Houghton who had scored a terrific 50 the week before came to the crease and took the attack to Maidenhead ably supported by the lower order at the other end, and Windsor managed to push themselves to175 and 8 precious batting bonus points.

With only one seam bowler available in the shape of Colin Bristow, who hadn’t played for two years, 175 was always going to be hard to defend. But the combination of Bristow, Light and Martin (who bowled 18 successive overs) did well to peg back the Maidenhead batting and with only ten overs remaining they still needed over 5 an over. However with wickets in hand combined with tired bowlers, meant their target was reached for the loss of only four wickets, mainly due to an impressive 107 not out from Jacobson.

Windsor should not to be downhearted though, the resolute batting to take them from 52-5 to 175 all out and the spirited bowling by the three available bowlers shows strength in depth. With bowlers due to return for this weeks top of the table clash at home to Marlow, they can go into that game with confidence.
