Windsor face Godalming test

Sunday, May 11th 2008

It was a bright sunny morning for the U15 Wanderers down at Godalming CC. We were invited to bat and faced some spirited bowling from the opening duo of Daryl and Tomes. Zain looked in good nick but perished for 2 as a lofted shot was pocketed in the outfield. Charlie joined Sunny at the crease but they found it hard to move the score board along. Charlie succombing for 5 from a fast straight one. Shray moved to the centre looking nimble on his feet but a fast low one did for him. Jack then joined Sunny for the most successful partnership of the innings putting on 41 with some crisp 4s from both players and well run singles. Jack eventually went for 18 after a curious over from Beadell which had everything. Olly joined Sunny, who as captain had sensibly dropped anchor to shore up one end. Olly thrust and parried but went down to a close run out. Luke bounced in for a jaunty cameo but the end of the 25 overs arrived with Windsor at 85 for 5. Sunny left high and dry on 28 with memories of crunching 4s and sturdy defence.

Sadly it was never going to be enough as Godalming's opening duo got stuck into Zain and Charlie with an array of boundaries. Some order was restored, with some accurate seam bowling, and Zain's wicket gave them pause for thought. Sunny weighed in with two miserly overs including another wicket and Jack claimed the last wicket to fall. However Godalming's Dukes strode convincingly to 33 which brought them to the edge of victory. A damp squib of a bye saw Godalming grasps the honours but Windsor fielded well (a couple of stunners from George), bowled encouragingly and never threw in the towel.
