Bore Draw at Royal Ascot

Windsor 4th XI - 231 for 6 (52 overs) S. Martin 104, C. Light 35, O. Smith 32 not out, Moore 2-46, Mohammed 2-62.

Royal Ascot 3rd XI - 134 for 7 (48 overs) Charles 27 not out, Mohammed 26, Baker 20 not out, H. Singh 3-42.

Windsor 4th XI improving form was halted, by a negative Ascot side, who made sure the match ended in a boring draw. Windsor Skipper Light, won the toss and decided to have a bat on the dry/flat Ascot wicket. This proved a wise move and the top order held up well until the impressive Mohammed took 2 wickets in 2 balls to leave Windsor with plenty of work to do at 73 for 3 off 22 overs. With the ever dependable Scott Martin at the crease Windsor pushed on. Martin hitting his 4th century of the season, giving him an incredible total of 694 runs in only 9 innings at an average of 116. With Martin's dismissal in the 44th over, skipper Light came to the crease to join Smith. They hit the ball to all parts scoring 60 runs off the last 7 overs, leaving the home side with a big target to chase. In reply, Acot were pegged back quickly. A lively opening spell by Lewis & Singh literally left the Ascot openers on the back foot. With only 20 runs scored off the first 10 overs it was obvious Ascot were not going to reach the target set. Before long they decided to play for a draw. Impressive bowling, especially by Singh with figure of 20 overs, 3 for 42 keep the batsmen in their shells. Even rotating the bowlers didn't work, leaving the superior Windsor side frustrated with their 13 points.

Windsor 4th XI 221 for 9 dec (50 Overs) O. Birch 54 not out, S. Martin 44, D. Bradbury 42, Niland 3/62.
Chiswick & Latymer 5th XI 181 all out (44.4 overs) Rauf 27, Aglat 27, D. Bradbury 3/40, S. Martin 2/15, H. Singh 2/40, U. Malik 2/52.

Result: Windsor won by 30 runs.

Windsor at last fullfilled their potential to pick up the maximum 25 pionts in what was once again a cliffhanger until the final half an hour of the match.Windsor were put in by Chiswick on a greenish Home Park wicket. Making a solid start, lead as normal by Scott Martin, Windsor pushed on until 4th new boy Damien Bradbury came to the crease. Playing with freedom and a little luck Bradbury decided to take it to the Chiswick attack. With wickets falling at the other end, he made a very quick fire 42 to put Windsor line for a defendable, but not large total. That was until Ollie Birch came to the crease at number 10! Playing with solid technique and power that put the top order to shame, he turn what looked like a total of 175 to leave the Windsor skipper Light, able to declare (on 221/9 after 50 overs) with a quick fire 54 not out, which included 11 boundaries! Leaving the oppositiion deflated going into tea.

Chiswick & Latymer knew a total of 222 would be a tough ask on this pitch, and they started slowly not to lose early wickets. Windsor bowlers Singh & Bradbury kept things tight and their patience was rewarded with Bradbury taking 2 wickets before drinks, leaving Chiswick at 70/2 off of 26 overs. This left the batting siding now needing 6.25 an over to win the game. With this in mind Light mixed the bowling around and brought on the Leg Spin of Malik to liven things up. This changed the game in a spell of just 5 overs. Although he went for over 10 runs an over, Malik took 2 quick wickets and a run out with a direct hit to leave the batting side tottering. With this happening Light went for the kill, bringing, back Bradbury and Martin, to finish off the tail, leaving the batting side 30 runs short.

So Close Again

Marlow 3rd XI 173 for 8 (52 Overs) Saunders 32, Defrancis, Hudson 23, Khanna 4-12, Martin 4-40.
Windsor 4th XI 163 for 9 (48 Overs) Martin 63, Bullock 21, Saunders 5-52, DeFrancis 4-32.

Result: Draw

It was one of those days again for Windsor. Throwing victory away when almost in their grasp. On a rather tricky sloped pitch, Marlow decided to have a bat after winning the toss. Windsor, who had their 3 main seam bowlers out for this clash, just set about trying to 'keep things tight' and 'see what happens'. The opening pair of skipper Light and Aussie Martin did just that. The first wicket coming from a mistimed shot from opener Hudson, off of Martin, caught by Griffiths. This was typical of how the Marlow innings went. Martin's tight bowling created pressure which caused them to play rash shots. He finished with superb figures of 4-40. By the time Khanna joined the attack the overs were running out. With his flighty off spin he took 4 quick wickets for just 12 runs runs, to leave Marlow happy with 173-8 after their alotted overs.

Windsor knew chasing 174 on this bumpy pitch would be a tough ask, and they were proved right. Marlow captian, Saunders, took the first 3 Windsor wickets leaving the visting side on 25-3 (10 Overs). This brought the usual opening pair of Martin & Bullock to the creasing. The pairing played both sensibly, but also mixing it up with the odd boundary to keep the score board moving and keep Marlow 'honest'. The crucial moment came as they reached their century partnership, with Martin holing out on 63, off of young leggie DeFrancis. At this point Windsor needed 49 to win off 13 Overs with 6 wickets in hand. This lead to the now weekly Windsor collapse. Losing 5 wickets for just 27 runs, Windsor limped to 166-9. In the end the grit of Khanna & Griffiths helped the batting side hold on for a draw with a tough 11 needed to win off of the last over.
