Windsor U14/U15 royals

Mixed season with only10 games played in total:
7 in the U14 WSYCL won 4 lost 3.
3 in the Berkshire league won 2 lost 1 with one abandoned to rain.

The season started well with two good wins against Royal Ascot and Valley End, then we went into the doldrums a bit with a series of losses against Woking, Slough and Staines, we then won the remainder of the games with the exception of an extraordinary game against Bagshot where virtually all players from both teams forgot how to bat with Windsor all out for 55 and Bagshot recovering from 12 for 4 to get to 56 for the loss of 6 wickets.

Overall some good performances with the bat with the team averaging 120 runs per innings with Conor Reeves scoring 265 from 10 innings with three 50 not out retirements, averaging 44, and Jamie Tuthill 255 runs from 9 innings with two 50 not out retirements averaging 43, Cameron Avery scored the quickest 50 (not out) of the season off only 15 balls (against Camberley), ably supported by Gareth George from the U13’s and Arjun Ghattaura, between them scoring 85% of all runs from the bat.

Some good bowling throughout the season with consistently good performances from the medium pace of Adam Richards and Salvin Dass and the spin of Cameron Avery and Gem Clough, with some notable spells Theo Evered, 3 overs 2 for no runs, Faizan Qureshi 4 overs 1 for 3 both against Twyford.

Four players have now played for the seniors at various levels including the emerging academy side which bodes well for the future of the club.

Representation this season:
Cameron Avery has been a member of the 2009 East Berkshire District U15 squad who won their Divisional competition.
Arjun Ghattaura has been a member of the 2009 U14 Berkshire County squad.
Jamie Tuthill has played 16 games this season for the 2009 U14 Berkshire County team as wicket keeper.

Jamie, Arjun and Cameron have all been proposed for 2010 U15 County trials, with Conor and Gareth proposed for 2010 U15 District trials.

2009 season starts at last

After four games that have had to be cancelled for various reasons Windsor U14's had their first game this evening against Royal Ascot played at their ground in the middle of the racecourse in the U14 WSYCL.

Windsor won the toss and batted first. having scored a boundary and a six in the first three balls the openers steadied a bit (in fact a bit too much) and the team went on to score 139 for 1 off their allotted 20 overs with Jamie Tuthill having to retire on 51 not out, Gareth George making 47 not out and Conor Reeves coming in with less than 5 overs to go adding an unbeaten 26 runs to the total.

Windsor followed this up with a tidy display in the field with Adam Richards, Theo Evered, Arjun Ghattaura, Cameron Avery and Callum Maley all picking up wickets ably supported by their team mates fielding and this limited Ascot to 113 for 7 off their 20 overs. The game was played in a great spirit with both sides contributing to a very pleasant afternoon's cricket.

So a reasonably comfortable win to start the season off for WCC U14 but a long way to go to emulate their colleagues of last year!.

Windsor Under 14's win West Surrey League Final

Monday 21st July 2008

Windsor CC 131 for 6; 20 Overs (Rylance 48, Barton 33)
Sunbury CC 77 for 9; 18 Overs
(Shaw 51 r.o.)

Windsor won by 54 runs

Windsor u14s, after an up and down league campaign (played 7 won 6, lost 1), played out the closing stages of the West Surrey Youth League over the weekend.
On Saturday morning at a bright but breezy Home Park the boys took on Horsley & Send, a team they hadn't played before, in the semi-final. Batting first on a drying strip Windsor made 134 in their 20 overs with Kristan top scoring with a well paced 46 not out. In make or break games such as this, the team know what they have to do in order to win games and took to the field confident they could keep Horsley & Send pegged back behind the required run rate. The Windsor bowlers took to their task well with Jack & Kristan being particularly miserly and Oli bowling his customary low scoring final over which ensured Horsley & Send were restricted to 119. The wickets were shared between the 6 bowlers used and with good all-round fielding and 2 run outs Windsor were in good shape for the final.

The final took place at the picturesque Whiteley Village ground on Monday evening in pleasant sunshine against 2 times previous winners Sunbury. Windsor were the clear underdogs, but batting first on a firm track with a good outfield they were fast out of the traps and dominated the Sunbury bowling. Bradley scored quickly and heavily to make 48, finally out caught trying to get past the magic 50. His fellow opener, Jack, also scored well with 33. All the batsmen's' running between the wickets was exceptional, many singles were made into 2s and 2s into 3s. The following batsmen all played their part by pushing the fielders at every possible opportunity and with the help of 26 extras a total of 131 was made. Before the game Windsor would have settled for 120, so they felt they were in with a shout of winning the match and the league.

The Windsor bowlers carried on where the batsmen had left off, good tight bowling, very few extras, backed up by some determined fielding and a couple of excellent run outs. Sunbury started quickly but soon tailed off when the relentless Windsor pressure began to tell. Once their in-form opener, Elliot Shaw had to retire on 51, Windsor began to scent victory and they were not to be disappointed. Wickets fell at 72, 73, 73, 74, 77 & 77 to give Windsor a well deserved victory inside 17 overs.

After the team had picked themselves up following their wild celebrations on the fall of the final Sunbury wicket, captain Rhys Bryant was presented with the winning trophy and each player received their winners medal.

With thanks to Mark & David for managing them this season, the boys are now looking forward to taking part in The Summer League, following this well deserved victory.
